I really enjoyed drinking the local Rosé this summer. There is such a wide variety of sparkling and still BC Rosés to suit every palate. Many BC wineries sold out of the 2015 vintage before the end of the 2016 summer. This led to a significant increase in production for the 2016 vintage and an inventory challenge for some wineries.

Why Fall is a great time for drinking Rosé
Pan fried or BBQ Wild Salmon and Arctic Char are some of my favourite fall dishes. These dishes are excellent when paired with a Rosé that exhibits crisp and dry acidity, a savoury bouquet and a slightly astringent tannic structure¹. These wines also pair well with other Fall dishes such as shellfish, lamb and pasta.

Fashion Estates Ombré Rosé 2016
The grapes for the Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon-based rosé came from a Golden Mile vineyard, located between Road 18 & 19. The vines are 23 years old and grow in sandy loam soil structures. This site had a beautiful rock face to add extra warmth throughout the growing season. The Merlot was sourced from the Gold Hill Winery.
This well-balanced dry style rosé has a deep scarlet hue with fresh strawberries, watermelon, and orange characteristics while finishing off with a vibrant strawberry orange cream. The depth of this big Rosé comes from spending 24 hours on the Merlot skins. The wine pairs well with shellfish, pasta, and salad dishes.

Bordertown Cabernet Franc Rosé 2016
Bordertown is blessed with premier plantings of Cabernet Franc, and we have diverted some of these to the production of a classic French Provence style rosé. Starting with a light pink colour, the aromas are of ripe melon and strawberries. On the palate, bright citrus, luscious red fruits and watermelon. The profile is subtle and harmonious with a crisp dry backbone. This is a delicious rose that’s at home with summertime BBQ and as a delightful sipper on a back patio.

Black Market Omertà 2016
Rob Hammersley is very passionate about this crisp, dry rosé made from 100% Pinot Noir. Many BC Wineries have minimized the cost for Pinot Noir based rosé by using the cheaper grapes from young vines. But not Black Market’s Rosé! Rob has used the same grapes from mature vines that go into the premium Pinot Noir. The grapes are from the Sonora Pines Vineyard in North Oliver. The elegance of this wine is the result of painstakingly delicate handling of the fruit. Hand picked, hand sorted and destemmed, the grapes were transferred by hand into the press using 20-litre buckets. A light squeeze was followed by 7 hours of maceration on the skins to extract a perfect balance of colour and flavour. Only free-run juice made its way into this wine.
The vibrant nose has the aromas of strawberry, watermelon, and raspberry. On the palate, the entry is bright and juicy, dominated by raspberry, wild strawberry, and rhubarb. Crisp acidity with only the slightest hint of sweetness, this wine finishes dry.
