Driving back from our wine tasting at Dirty Laundry Vineyard in Summerland, on a hot summer’s day, we were looking for lunch and decided to stop at Drew’s kitchen (Second on Trip Advisor restaurant list for Summerland). Drew’s had closed months ago but fortunately, our next stop was the Local Lounge • Grille. Local Lounge is one of the Okanagan’s premier restaurant and bars that merges casual sophistication with an upbeat urban style. The atmosphere is often described as an urban retreat with close-up views of the water and natural elements. The Local Lounge is conveniently located right next to the Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa, should you happen to need a close place to stay after your meal.
The 130 seat restaurant features a large selection of local BC wines, innovative cocktails and a wide selection of craft-brewed draught beers. The menu blends delicious global cuisine with seasonal inspired fresh ingredients delivered by a passionate team. It is also a great place to just sit and watch the world go by!
We were quickly seated at a lakeside patio table and ordered drinks. Our server was friendly and gave menu suggestions which I always appreciate. Judy continued with the Dry Laundry theme, this time, a glass of Dirty Laundry’s Kay – Syrah. I went for the Dead Frog Belgium Pale Ale to cleanse the palate after a hard day’s wine tasting! The beer was a dark cloudy amber brown colour with a large solid cap of the honey-coloured head, good retention and lacing.
For the meal, Judy had the Beet Carpaccio Salad: hardy field greens, balsamic glaze, goat cheese and thinly slice beet chips. I had two really tasty duck tacos: two tortillas, crisp duck confit, shredded lettuce, cheddar, salsa and lime creme fraiche. The Grille has a great view, excellent service and first-class food. On the way out we took a leisurely stroll along the lakeshore and watched the boating action.
We will definitely stop here again the next time we are in Summerland.
