Introduction
As the title suggests, the emphasis of this post is the five-star suite accommodation at Quidni Estate Winery. For background on the winery please go to my earlier article here.
Guest Accommodation
After a short drive from Kelowna, we arrived at Quidni mid-afternoon to be given a very warm welcome by Dustin Legacy, the resident cellar assistant and wine room raconteur. He really made Judy and I feel like special guests. After settling in we returned downstairs to taste the Quidni wines and to be entertained by Dustin’s wine stories. You can find our favourite red and white wine below from the free wine tasting.
The Rooms are super clean. Each room has a soaker tub, a separate shower enclosure, hair dryers and some toiletries. The bedroom has a flat screen TV with lots of channels and the WiFi is reliable in the room and throughout the building. There is a small animal farm behind the vineyard that we could see from our balcony. There was a rooster for an early wake-up call! Also chickens, ducks, alpacas and horses. The view of the vineyards, lake and Summerland on the other side of the lake is hard to beat.
In the Hallway is a Keurig coffee maker, a kettle for making tea, fruit and a common large fridge storing food and drinks. There are tables and chairs to have a meal beside the vines or you can use the patio beside the wine room for drinks.
Local Restaurants
For food the first night we ordered takeout from Rocky’s Real Things Pizza. The large Hola Amiga pizza went great with a bottle of Quidni’s “WhyNot” Red. The second night we went to the Naramata Pub and Grill for fish tacos and salad. The Pub was really jumping, with a number of the crush crews blowing off steam! You can choose from a number of winery bistros for lunch.
Access to the Kettle Valley Railway trail is right across the street. You can rent bikes and ride the KVR through the tunnel for a 5-minute ride to town. Or you can just stay on the upper bench and enjoy the sunset.
Favourite Wines
2015 Viognier is a blend of fruit from the Quidni Estate Vineyard and the Lutz Family Vineyard in Summerland. Aromas of honeysuckle and peaches with a rich floral feel and long mouthwatering finish.
“WhyNot” Red is a Merlot and Cab Franc blend. Juicy, savoury and full-bodied. Aroma of blackberry and raspberry with a hint of vanilla and spice. The flavour is plum, raspberry and blackberry. The smooth tannins and acidity go well with spicy Pizza.
Winery
The winery has been operating for over a year and in that time has been making great strides in wine production and sales distribution. The estate vineyard includes three acres of 5-year-old vines planted which include 6 varietals: Gewürztraminer, Viognier, Pinot Gris, Merlot, Cab Franc and Syrah. Quidni also has a number of vineyards under contract to ensure there is enough fruit for future expansion.
