Blasted Church Rolls Out Three Standout 2024 Wines

Reading Time: 5 minutes
Blasted Church Big Bang Theory, Hatfield’s Fuse & Pinot Gris

Blasted Church has never been shy about breaking a few commandments, and their latest trio of 2024 wines follows suit. Big Bang Theory, Hatfield’s Fuse, and Pinot Gris roll out with the same playful irreverence the winery is known for—yet behind the humour lies serious winemaking. Crafted from premium fruit sourced at Andrews Family Vineyards in Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills (a Sustainable WA–certified site), these wines show precision, balance, and plenty of personality.

Below is a closer look at the new vintage lineup.

Hatfield’s Fuse 2024 ($22)

41% Pinot Gris • 39% Riesling • 20% Viognier
$22 | 12.5% alc | 3,305 cases | CSPC 243629 | Origin: Washington State

The iconic Blasted Church aromatic blend returns with beautifully layered fruit, lifted aromatics, and outstanding balance.

Winemaking

The fruit for the 2024 Hatfield’s Fuse was sourced from Sustainable WA-certified Andrews Family Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. Each block was harvested separately at its ideal combination of sugar, acid, and flavour—with an eye to both the individual components and the final blend.

Selective skin contact on a few lots was used to boost aromatic intensity and mouthfeel. Each variety plays a distinct role: Pinot Gris brings orchard and stone fruits, plus texture; Riesling contributes brilliant acidity and citrus notes; and Viognier adds floral character and weight on the palate. In 2024, each component is performing its role beautifully.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Pale straw.
Nose: A smorgasbord of lemon, clementine, pear, green apple, white peach and tropical fruit.
Palate: A juicy attack of lemon, orange, florals, and peach, supported by lively acidity through the mid-palate. Orchard-fruit flavours take over from there, and the rich texture builds through a long, fresh finish. 91 Points

Pairing Suggestions

A natural fit for poached salmon, pork schnitzel, roasted chicken, or creamy pasta dishes.

Pinot Gris 2024

Blasted Church Pinot Gris and Gone Crackers undressed.

$24 | 12.9% alc | 2,012 cases | CSPC 243651 | Origin: Washington Sta

This is a beautifully fresh and textural Pinot Gris that stays true to the winery’s Okanagan-inspired house style, even in a cross-border year.

Winemaking

The Pinot Gris was grown on a gentle north-facing slope—a rarity in the Horse Heaven Hills—at Andrews Family Vineyards. A heavier canopy was maintained, allowing harvest to be pushed into late September while preserving natural acidity. The soils are silty loam over fractured basalt, very similar to Blasted Church’s estate and grower vineyards in the South Okanagan.

The fruit was harvested on September 24 and underwent a two-hour cold soak before being pressed. After settling and temperature-controlled transport to the Okanagan Falls cellar, the juice was racked into tanks to undergo further cold settling before fermentation. Each tank was treated slightly differently, allowing the team to craft a nuanced wine with orchard and stone-fruit notes, bright acidity, and excellent balance—very reminiscent of their Okanagan Valley–sourced Pinot Gris.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Pale straw with a crisp, luminous hue.
Nose: Fresh orchard fruits—pear and apple—joined by nectarine, tangerine zest, and a light thread of honeyed richness.
Palate: Bright and lively on entry, offering pear, apple, and citrus. The mid-palate broadens with gentle richness, revealing layers of stone fruit and subtle honey notes. Acidity remains finely balanced throughout, resulting in a clean, textured finish that lingers with notes of citrus and pear. 92 Points.

Crisp, polished, and quietly expressive—classic BC Pinot Gris with excellent balance.

Pairing Suggestions

Try it with roasted chicken, grilled fish, or salty cheeses.

Big Bang Theory 2024

60% Merlot • 24% Syrah • 16% Malbec
$26 | 14.5% alc | 2,610 cases | CSPC 243590 | Origin: Washington State

The 2024 Big Bang Theory delivers the rich, approachable red blend fans have come to expect—ripe, polished, and full of dark-fruit charm.

Winemaking

The grapes were grown at Andrews Family Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, where soils closely resemble Blasted Church’s Okanagan sites. Fruit was hand-harvested on September 23 and 30 at an ideal balance of flavour, tannin evolution, sugar, and acidity. After destemming, the grapes underwent a seven-day cold soak before fermentation. Tanks were pumped over once or twice per day, with macerations ranging from 18 to 21 days.

The wine was then transferred to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging. After three months, the blend was assembled and returned to the barrel for an additional three months of aging before being bottled. The result is a rich, ripe expression of Big Bang Theory that still preserves freshness.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep, vibrant ruby.
Nose: A generous bouquet of ripe plum, black cherry, and dark berries, lifted by subtle floral notes and rounded out with warm vanilla and a touch of dark chocolate.
Palate: Lush plum and black-cherry flavours glide across the palate, supported by fine-grained, lightly leathery tannins. Bright acidity keeps everything fresh and lively, while the fuller texture delivers a smooth, fruit-forward finish that lingers with satisfying depth. 92 Points. Delicious now, but with the structure and balance to age gracefully if you have the patience.

Pairing Suggestions

A versatile red blend that shines with grilled sausages, lasagna, rich mushroom dishes, red-sauce pastas, and Friday-night pizza.
