On the first day of October, we visited Mount Boucherie Winery to try their newly released vintages. Winemaker Jim Faulkner and his team produce 25,000 cases of wine annually. The event was promoted as part of the fall wine festival so there was a large and enthusiastic crowd in attendance. For background on Mt. Boucherie Winery please visit my earlier post.
The food pairings for the wine tasting were prepared by Krafty Kitchen. Mia and her colleague did an awesome job with the Salmon Mousse to accompany the Chardonnay. The Venison pâté meatballs were phenomenal when paired with the reds which possessed just the right acidity to balance the sweetness of the pâté.
The Wines
In the tent erected for the event, they were pouring complimentary tastings of the newly released 2013 Summit Winemaker’s Reserve, 2012 Meritage and 2015 Chardonnay.
Mt. Boucherie Chardonnay 2015 This is a Chablis-style crisp and dry chard with fruit-forward lemon and citrus notes and a backbone of green apple. Excellent when paired salmon.
Mt. Boucherie Summit Winemaker’s Reserve 2013 A Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. 100% winery-owned fruit from vineyards in the Okanagan Valley and Similkameen Valley. Aged in 100% French Oak. Aromas of cassis, red currant, raspberry and a hint of coffee. On the palate, this full-bodied red offers firm tannins with a rounded and smooth finish.
Mt. Boucherie Meritage 2012 This is a smooth red with aromas of spice, plum and black currant. On the palate plum, fig, black cherry and vanilla. The long ripe tannins give the wine an almost silky finish, but with enough structure to age.
The Music
The live music was provided by the Niki Martinus project. Nicki has a great voice and the music provided the perfect backdrop for the event.
Crush
The most entertaining part of the afternoon was watching a fresh batch of 2016 Chardonnay grapes get crushed into BC Wine!
This was a fun afternoon living the good life in Kelowna. Mt.Boucherie continues to thrive with the new management team producing fine BC wine.
