Petition Launched to Support Okanagan MP Dan Albas’ Bill Allowing Canadians to Buy Canadian Wine Across Provincial Borders
Summerland, BC — A national petition supporting legislation that would allow Canadians to order Canadian wine, craft beer and spirits directly from producers across provincial borders is now open for signatures on the House of Commons website.
The petition supports Bill C-262, introduced by Dan Albas, Member of Parliament for Okanagan Lake West–South Kelowna, which would amend the Canada Post Corporation Act to create a national framework allowing Canadians to receive Canadian wine, craft beer and spirits directly from producers across provincial boundaries through Canada Post and other trusted carriers.
The petition (e-7258) was initiated by Ron Kubek, owner of Lightning Rock Winery in Summerland, and is now officially open for Canadians to sign.

“This issue has been years in the making,” said Kubek. “Dan Albas and I first worked on this effort back in 2020 and 2021 when we launched a national petition to remove interprovincial barriers to shipping Canadian wine. Unfortunately, that initiative died when a snap federal election was called.”
Kubek says the new legislation reflects months of renewed work with MP Albas, and he thanked both Albas and the Conservative caucus for supporting the introduction of the bill. “I want to thank Dan Albas and the Conservative caucus for approving the filing of this private member’s bill,” Kubek said. “Dan has consistently stood up for Canadian producers and consumers on this issue.”
Bill C-262 would establish a trusted-carrier framework allowing Canadians to receive Canadian wine, craft beer and spirits across provincial boundaries while maintaining age-verification and secure delivery standards.
In introducing the bill, Albas noted that it is still easier for a B.C. winery to ship wine to Texas than to Toronto.
Kubek says that contradiction highlights the problem.
“Canadians should be able to buy Canadian,” Kubek said. “Instead we have a patchwork of provincial barriers that prevent consumers from supporting wineries, breweries and distilleriesin other provinces.”
Supporters across Canada are now encouraged to sign the petition and support Bill C-262. “This is about more than wine,” Kubek added. “It’s about removing internal trade barriers and strengthening Canada’s economy from coast to coast.”
