🍷 Stoneboat Pinot Noir + BBQ Ribs A very enjoyabl 🍷 Stoneboat Pinot Noir + BBQ Ribs

A very enjoyable Okanagan Pinot Noir from Stoneboat Vineyards in Oliver — and an excellent match with BBQ ribs.

Violet aromas mingle with bright red cherry and raspberry, followed by cranberry, subtle spice and intriguing forest-floor and earthy mushroom notes. Fresh acidity keeps everything lively, while the soft tannins and juicy red fruit balance the smoky, sweet richness of the ribs beautifully.

Elegant, savoury and distinctly Pinot — and proof that Pinot Noir can be terrific with BBQ.

🍷 @mtboucheriewine Reserve Syrah 2022 A decidedly 🍷 @mtboucheriewine Reserve Syrah 2022

A decidedly cooler-climate expression of BC Syrah, this 2022 Reserve leans more toward Northern Rhône than Australian Shiraz in style.

The wine opens with bright red cherry, raspberry and rhubarb, complemented by violet, white pepper and savoury spice. The palate is youthful and energetic, with lively acidity giving the red fruit a fresh, slightly tart edge. Fine tannins and subtle spice carry through a long, refreshing finish.

At just 13.1% alcohol, with a pH of 3.23 and TA of 6.8 g/L, there's plenty of freshness and structure. The wine spent 15 months in French and Hungarian oak, only 20% new, allowing the fruit and peppery character to remain front and centre.

Still tasting young and tightly wound, this should become even more interesting with a little additional bottle age.

Tonight’s Tomahawk Prime Rib was paired with the M Tonight’s Tomahawk Prime Rib was paired with the Moon Curser Syrah 2022 — and it’s hard to imagine a much better match.

Sourced from four vineyards around Osoyoos, this 100% Syrah spent an extended 24 months in French and Hungarian oak, with 28% new barrels. The result is a rich, polished Syrah with layers of blackberry, blueberry and fig, complemented by violet, liquorice, cocoa and baking spice. Savoury notes of graphite, leather and white pepper add complexity and carry through the long, toasted finish.

The dark fruit, peppery spice and savoury character were right at home beside the rich, juicy beef and deeply seared crust of the Tomahawk.

A terrific example of why South Okanagan Syrah and prime rib are such natural partners.

🍷 Beaufort Organic Pinot Noir 2024 A youthful, co 🍷 Beaufort Organic Pinot Noir 2024

A youthful, cool-climate Pinot Noir from Vancouver Island with plenty of energy in the glass.

The nose opens with red currant, sour cherry and plum, while the palate brings bright red fruit, subtle earthy and leather notes, supple tannins and vibrant acidity that gives the wine a lively, refreshing edge.

That acidity really came into its own at the dinner table, pairing perfectly with Indonesian-style cod — a terrific example of how a bright, energetic Pinot Noir can shine with food.

Only four barrels were produced. The wine spent 26 days on the skins followed by 13 months in French oak, 30% new, and was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

The 2024 vintage was a challenging one for Vancouver Island growers, with a cool and difficult growing season making ripening and harvest decisions particularly important. Against that backdrop, this is an especially interesting expression of the vintage.

At just 11.5% alcohol, this is a distinctly cool-climate expression of Pinot Noir and still feels very young. I’ll revisit the bottle tomorrow to see whether a little air and another day open it up and mellow that vibrant acidity.

🍋🌿 A first for Vasanti — and a very appealing take 🍋🌿 A first for Vasanti — and a very appealing take on Okanagan Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2025 Vasanti Sauvignon Blanc is the winery’s first release of the variety, made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown at Paradise Vineyard in Oliver.

The fruit was gently pressed and cool fermented to preserve its fresh aromatics, then matured entirely in stainless steel. And with only 185 cases produced, there isn’t much of it around.

🥂 Tasting Notes: Fresh aromas of lemon and lime are complemented by green apple and a subtle touch of fresh hay. The palate is dry and refreshing, with mellow flavours of crisp green apple, white peach and citrus.

What I particularly like is the texture. It softens the bright acidity and gives the wine a mellow, balanced character, rather than the sharper, more aggressive style Sauvignon Blanc can sometimes deliver.

Clean and refreshing through the finish, with lingering lemon and lime.

A very nice debut for Sauvignon Blanc at Vasanti. 🍷

🍾✨ A really good value BC sparkler. The 2025 Vasa 🍾✨ A really good value BC sparkler.

The 2025 Vasanti Paradise Bubbles is made from 100% Pinot Gris grown at Paradise Vineyard, Vasanti’s coolest vineyard site in Oliver.

Cool fermentation helps preserve the fresh fruit character before the wine is finished with a lively effervescence — and the result is an easy-drinking sparkler that delivers plenty of flavour.

🥂 Tasting Notes: Inviting aromas of citrus, apricot and a delicate touch of honey lead into an abundance of fine bubbles that settle into a refreshing effervescence.

The palate is crisp and beautifully balanced, bursting with Key lime, lemon and pink grapefruit, complemented by juicy white peach.

Fresh, vibrant and remarkably easy to enjoy. At 11.6% alcohol, it’s a terrific summer aperitif and, for me, a really good value sparkler.

🍽️ Perfect with fresh seafood, sushi, creamy cheeses, appetizers — or simply well chilled on the patio.
