Another excellent meal at Journey Restaurant at @a Another excellent meal at Journey Restaurant at @azhadivineyards 🍷🍽️ Journey continues to be one of our favourite winery dining experiences in the Okanagan, combining creative dishes with wines grown and made right at the estate. We started with the Grilled Octopus, served with tomatillo, pepitas & sesame mole verde, salsa verde, tostada crisps and charred lemon — a terrific match with Azhadi’s bright, refreshing Riesling. For the mains, the beautifully tender Saffron & Apricot Lamb Shank brought together warm Persian-inspired flavours of ras el hanout, apricot, saffron and tomato. The Tamarind Glazed Lingcod was another standout, with orzo, turmeric-roasted cauliflower, Riesling-soaked golden raisins and a barberry lemon butter sauce. And we certainly didn’t skip dessert! The Velvet Chocolate Crémeux was rich and decadent, while the Saffron Rose & Pistachio Gelato provided a lighter, fragrant finish. Along the way we enjoyed Azhadi Sparkling Rosé, Riesling and Pinot Noir — a lovely reminder of how well these wines work at the table. Journey does a particularly nice job of bringing together Persian influences, Okanagan ingredients and estate wines. 🥂 Narrative XC Sparkling — now with a 0.5% option 🥂 Narrative XC Sparkling — now with a 0.5% option Okanagan Crush Pad is taking its first step into the non-alcoholic wine category with the release of Narrative XC Sparkling 0.5, joining the popular original Narrative XC Sparkling. The new wine has an interesting story behind it. Following the devastating 2024 winter freeze and resulting zero crop, Okanagan Crush Pad chose not to simply bring in grapes from another region. Instead, the team used the opportunity to experiment with new beverage styles, including lower-alcohol options. One of those experiments was Orchard + Field, a 5% apple wine made with haskap and other berries. Its success helped encourage OCP to explore another increasingly important category — wine for people who are reducing or eliminating alcohol but still want something thoughtfully made for the dinner table. 🥂 Enter Narrative XC Sparkling 0.5. The new dealcoholized sparkling builds on one of Narrative’s most successful wines, XC Sparkling, which itself began life as an experimental small lot before growing to more than 2,000 cases annually. Chief winemaker Matthew Dumayne says the key is starting with quality wine before removing the alcohol. Preserving as much texture, balance and drinking pleasure as possible. 🍾 Narrative XC Sparkling — the original 🥂 Narrative XC Sparkling 0.5 — the new dealcoholized alternative For now, this is very much a trial. The winery has produced just 200 cases of Narrative XC Sparkling 0.5, available for $27.99. Okanagan Crush Pad is actively asking wine lovers for feedback before deciding where to take the idea next. I’m looking forward to tasting these side by side. It should be fascinating to see how closely the 0.5% version captures the character and enjoyment of the original XC Sparkling. I’ve been tasting the four new Township 7 2024 Interlude reds — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Interlude Red. The series was born from the devastating January 2024 freeze, when Township 7 sourced premium fruit from trusted growers in Washington and California, then brought it back to Naramata to make, age and bottle the wines in BC. 🍁 Interlude Cabernet Sauvignon — Full-bodied and dark, with black cherry, cassis and a touch of dark chocolate. Think ribeye or a charred burger on a crisp fall evening. 🍂 Interlude Merlot — Blackberry and black cherry with baking spice and earthy notes.
