High Note Estate Winery, a new Mediterranean-inspired property located on the Naramata Bench, opened this month. The estate features stunning views of Okanagan Lake, surrounded by a small three-acre picturesque vineyard, planted predominantly to Pinot Grigio.
Under the direction of consulting winemaker Pascal Madevon, High Note Estate Winery marks the third addition to the Montalvino family of wineries, following Gadzook Vinery and Uppercase Winery. Founded by Bert Evertt, with the support of Ruth Hanbury (Director of Operations) and Levi Gogolinski (Director of Marketing), High Note Estate Winery marries Evertt’s passion for the arts and fine wine.
Here are the tasting notes for the two new wines we recently tasted.
High Note Wines
Soubrette Pinot Grigio 2022 ($25) only 385 cases made
“The Pinot Grigio is like the soubrette of an opera: playful, charming, and vivacious. From estate vineyards in the South Okanagan, we take our inspiration from Italian-style Pinot Grigios, which are light, refreshing, and delicate. They make the perfect supporting character for long, relaxing lunches and fresh summer produce, offering bright lemon, pear, and melon fruit that’s lifted by fragrant honeysuckle.”
Alcohol 12.9% / pH 3.51 / TA 6.38 / RS 1.5
The Pinot Gris was sourced from Singletree and Border Vineyards and fermented to dryness and aged in stainless steel.
Light aromas of stone fruit with citrus notes. Flavours of green apple, honeydew melon, Anjou pear and lemon zest. Light to medium-bodied, dry with bright acidity and mineral notes. 91 Points
The wine is also a perfect match for BC Oysters or Caprese salad.
Continuo Rosado 2022 ($25) only 212 cases made
“A Continuo is a song’s undercurrent, a constant, rhythmic base that elevates a melody. That’s how we view our Rosado. It is the soundtrack to elevate any occasion – from beach days to al fresco summer dinners with friends – while beautifully expressing our estate Okanagan vineyards. Balanced and dry, it is elegant and restrained with pristine aromas of pink grapefruit, watermelon, and wild strawberry.”
Alcohol 12.5% / pH 3.75 / TA 6.6 / RS 4
Predominantly Pinot Noir, with a splash of Teroldego, the fruit was direct-pressed and aged in stainless steel.
The wine opens with light aromas of strawberry, rose petals and jasmine. Flavours of wild strawberry, pink grapefruit and mandarin orange. A creamy, smooth and long finish. 91 Points
