In celebration of the Year of the Snake, Haywire Winery is releasing its limited-edition wine, Haywire Lunar Red.
We are excited to give you an exclusive look and taste! This release continues a beloved tradition that began in 2014 when Haywire became the first winery in British Columbia to release a Lunar New Year wine. Here are the notes on last year’s wine – Haywire Lunar Red 2021 – Limited Edition
In limited quantities at $28.88 per bottle, Haywire Lunar Red is available for pre-order at Haywire’s online store. A portion of the proceeds from this Haywire Lunar wine will be donated to the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, a registered charity committed to revitalizing Chinatown, one of Canada’s most iconic neighbourhoods in the historic heart of Vancouver.
HAYWIRE Lunar Red – YEAR OF THE SNAKE
A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this wine has an intense nose, with notes of dark cherry, black licorice, leather, and a subtle earthy component. Light to Medium-bodied on the palate, balanced with chalky tannins. Stewed fruits, a hint of cherry cola, fennel, and dark cocoa fill the flavour profile. The finish is lengthy with bright lifting acidity.
For pairing, the best matches include ginger beef, smoky sauces, dark soy, Szechuan, and wok-seared vegetables.
Here is another example of the low-intervention wines produced by Haywire.
Haywire Switchback Pinot Gris 2021
Haywire Winery is surrounded by Switchback Vineyard, a biodynamically farmed site that forms the foundations for the natural and minimal intervention winemaking approach, resulting in wines that reflect the terroir.
The Pinot Gris from Switchback Organic Vineyard was whole-cluster pressed into large format concrete tanks for fermentation using natural yeast and aged for six months on lees.
Alcohol 13.0%| pH: 3.22 | TA: 7.5 | RS: 1.7
The colour is Alsace gold, but the flavour is Okanagan fresh. Aromas of ripe pear and Mandarin orange. Pear and citrus flavours with a mineral backbone that enhances the structure. Medium-bodied and rich mouthfeel adds to the complexity of the wine. 91 Points.
