12 BC Merlot for Transitioning to Fall

Reading Time: 6 minutes

When we moved to Arizona in 2000, most of our friends were dedicated Merlot fans.  Unfortunately, we found the wine to be flabby, simple and uninteresting, often due to the overcropping by many California wineries.

All that changed on our first visit to Napa Valley when we came across a small producer in Calistoga that made a low volume and interesting Merlot.  Awesome red currant and cherry aromas and flavours, not jammy with a hint of cedar on the nose and well-balanced acidity with a smooth tannic backbone.
