The nights are a little cooler now meaning the end of Summer is approaching. Time to break out the smoker and prepare for the Labour Day Steak, Burger or Ribfest. Here is a photo from last year’s BBQ and Merlot event to set the scene.

Sperling Vineyards Organic Speritz 2018 ($22)

Sperling Vineyards

Saxon Estate Pinot Grigio 2017 ($25)

A dry Pinot Grigio with an intense clear pale lemon colour. Citrus, apricot and pear aromas. On the palate tropical fruits, ripe red apple, white peach and Bosc pear with a hint of honey. A mouthwatering and lingering long finish. 90 points

Pairs beautifully with grilled halibut, spaghetti and pizza.

Black Market Omertà Rose´2018 ($22)

Black Market Wine Rose´

Fresh strawberries, watermelon, and orange characteristics while finishing off with a vibrant strawberry orange cream finish.  There is a subtle bitterness that ends the drinking experience like a cymbal crash at the end of a Beethoven symphony. 91 Points.

The wine pairs well with Asian food, spicy rice dishes, shellfish, pasta, and salad dishes.

Nagging Doubt The Leap 2016 ($22.90)

Nagging Doubt Wines

43% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc and 19% Malbec and 14.3% alcohol.

A fabulous blueberry and blackberry aroma with lovely floral notes. The wine has great fresh juiciness to the taste from the Malbec with smooth tannins and a soft palate feel from the extra ageing. Flavours of black cherry, plum and blackberry. 93 Points

Perfect when paired with BBQ ribs or steak.

Castoro de Oro Merlot 2016

Castoro de Oro

A big bold wine, full-bodied with a dense garnet red colour. Aromas of blueberry, black cherry and cocoa. On the palate, raisin, black fruit, stewed plum, dark chocolate and leather with a hint of nutmeg. Silky smooth tannins and a long finish. Ready to drink right now. This is an excellent value red. 93 Points

Paired with Tuscan Root Veggies and BBQ chicken.
