Wine’s calming properties have a long history, and it is even said to be the world’s oldest manufactured medication. As modern medicine is getting advanced, the usage of wine for health has taken a back seat, unfortunately. Wine has gone beyond being a beverage to be enjoyed with meals, with friends, or on a romantic evening. People all across the world are rediscovering wine’s wonderful health benefits that can soothe you. Most of us have heard about red wine’s heart-health benefits.

We’re also discussing moderate wine drinking here. Too much of anything is harmful, especially alcohol. The American Heart Association classifies a moderate amount as one to two four-ounce glasses per day.

Health Advantages of White Wine

White wine is an excellent source of antioxidants. These antioxidants assist in the fight against free radicals, which can harm your health and contribute to diseases like cancer. White wine is also linked to weight loss, anti-aging, and a lower incidence of lung illness. White wines with fewer calories, such as Pinot Grigio and Reisling, are among my favourites.

Soothing Benefits of Red Wine

Red wine gets all the credit for being excellent for you because red wine is treated with the skin (while white wine is prepared without the skin), it retains a significantly higher quantity of antioxidants. Resveratrol is present in the bitter tannins produced by the skin and this makes red wine such a potent and effective health tonic. Red wine health advantages include a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke & also improved cognitive function, lower cholesterol, and a lower risk of acquiring diabetes. Pinot Noir and Merlot are two of our favourite healthy red wines.

Improved Intestinal Health

Finally, some proponents argue that natural wine can benefit intestinal health because it contains healthy bacteria that aren’t filtered out or minimized throughout the winemaking process. Several small studies have suggested that red wine may have digestive benefits, but further research is needed.

Every decision made in winegrowing or viticulture affects the final quality of the bottle.

As British Columbia’s vineyards bloom, join us in celebrating the remarkable devotion and enthusiasm of the province’s winemakers and grape growers, as well as the vital ways they contribute to the land and protect the beauty and health of our environment for future generations.

Did you know that wildflowers can play an essential role in vineyard farming? They can be used as part of a cover crop, which helps protect soil in vineyards from erosion and maintain moisture levels while attracting bees and other beneficial insects, adding to biodiversity and sustainability.

Many BC winegrowers also make highly sought-after organic and natural wines.

Purchase beautiful wildflower seeds if you want to grow your own wine. Plant them and relax with a glass of fresh BC wine, knowing you’ve helped Mother Nature’s complicated ecosystem and also humans from the many harmful diseases. A fresh glass of wine in a quiet place can help you to soothe your body.
