🍷 Hester Creek THE JUDGE 2022 — 94 Points A bench 🍷 Hester Creek THE JUDGE 2022 — 94 Points

A benchmark vintage of one of the South Okanagan’s signature reds.

The Judge opens with a deeply layered bouquet of dark cherry, black plum, star anise, cocoa nib and cedar, evolving toward dried fig, graphite, espresso and warm caramel.

Broad and beautifully structured on the palate, with ripe Lapin cherry, blackberry compote, roasted fennel and espresso crema, supported by polished tannins and vibrant freshness. The finish is long and savoury, lingering with tobacco leaf, dark cocoa and baking spice.

Powerful, refined and built to age gracefully for a decade or more. 94 Points.

🍷 @ancienthillestatewinery Baco Noir 2019 — A Rare 🍷 @ancienthillestatewinery Baco Noir 2019 — A Rare BC Red

Baco Noir isn’t chasing popularity—and that’s exactly its appeal.

With just 12 acres planted across British Columbia, roughly 0.1% of the province’s vineyard land, Baco Noir is one of BC wine country’s true rarities.

And the Ancient Hills Baco Noir 2019 shows just how impressive this overlooked grape can be.

🍒 Tasting Notes: A superb expression of Baco Noir, pouring a bold, inky red. Aromas of ripe black cherry, dark plum and warm baking spices mingle with chocolate, vanilla and a touch of butterscotch. The palate is soft yet powerful, with a lush, velvety texture and a long finish balancing rich fruit with refined spice. 91 Points.

This is Baco Noir with some serious personality. Rich, distinctive and a reminder that some of BC’s least fashionable grapes can produce some of its most interesting wines.

🍷 Personality over popularity.

🍷 The Kootenays continue to surprise. Nestled nea 🍷 The Kootenays continue to surprise.

Nestled near Creston, @redbirdestate is quietly crafting some of British Columbia's most distinctive small-lot wines, and the new 2024 Atelier Red is another excellent example.

A blend of Merlot, Marquette and Marechal Foch, this handcrafted, unfined and unfiltered red offers inviting aromas of black cherry, raspberry and blueberry, with layers of dark chocolate, baking spice and subtle vanilla. Medium-bodied, fresh and wonderfully food-friendly, it's a versatile red that's equally at home with grilled burgers, roast pork or a hearty beef stew.

🏆 90 Points

I've also included a look back at Red Bird's story and why this family-run winery has become one of the Kootenays' hidden gems.

When BC's devastating 2024 freeze wiped out much o When BC's devastating 2024 freeze wiped out much of the province's grape crop, @quailsgate refused to compromise on quality.

Instead, winemaker Jeff Del Nin spent weeks driving across Washington State, personally tasting wines and selecting vineyard sites worthy of the Quails' Gate name.

The result is PLUME. Four beautifully crafted red wines that may be Washington-grown, but were made, aged and bottled in West Kelowna with the same meticulous attention to detail Quails' Gate is known for.

🍷 2024 PLUME Syrah with Glazed Ham & Heirloom Toma 🍷 2024 PLUME Syrah with Glazed Ham & Heirloom Tomato Carpaccio

Washington Syrah continues to impress, and this release from Quails' Gate's PLUME collection is no exception.

Sourced from vineyards near the Columbia River and aged 16 months in French oak, it delivers impressive concentration without sacrificing elegance.

🍇 Tasting Notes
Layers of blueberry, black plum and cracked white pepper lead into a rich palate of blackberry, raspberry and blueberry, complemented by savoury smoked meat, dark chocolate and a subtle hint of bacon. The tannins are remarkably fine and velvety—more polished than you might expect from a Syrah—while bright acidity keeps everything balanced through a long, persistent finish.

92 Points ⭐️

🍽️ Perfect Pairings
BBQ ribs • Slow-roasted lamb • Smoked vegetables • Glazed ham • Dark chocolate

A beautifully crafted Syrah that combines power with finesse and showcases just how compelling premium Washington fruit can be.
