Plot Wines is a new micro-winery created by winemaker and vigneron Kevin Rossion, and creative Adam Kereliuk.

The name ‘Plot’ is a nod to their approach of sourcing an ever-changing roster of fruit from their partner growers across the valley. Using minimal intervention and a low-tech approach, the wines are a reflection of where they come from and have been guided, not forced, to their final state.

It is difficult for virtual wineries to succeed in the Okanagan. The past few years have seen high grape prices and grape supply shortages. Here is Adam’s response to this challenge.

“With Plot, we’re virtual but Kevin the winemaker has a couple of acres (Tempranillo ,Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat) , and then for the rest we’re relying on a relationships with other growers. It’s a trade-off in our situation, low overhead, but a less secure supply.

That’s partly why I created Plot’s branding to fit with the model. The name is a nod to the approach of sourcing grapes from an ever-changing roster of partner growers across the valley – a common practice a lot of wineries use, but Plot is a brand will celebrate it. And each bottle features a little icon of the parcel of land the grapes came from.

Kevin’s wines have gotten a great response so far and are starting to get noticed by both Okanagan and Vancouver restaurants, so we’re very excited to keep the momentum going with our 2019 releases this spring, and our 2018 ‘Neighbour’ (Meritage) “

The Winemaker

Plot Wine Winemaker

Kevin Rossion has worked the last decade as a vineyard manager for multiple properties around the South Okanagan. And while he’s mostly taught himself about winemaking, there’s been a couple of special mentors along the way.

His winemaking starts first in the vineyard, and carries through with a minimalist touch in the winery, striving to use as little intervention as possible. Low production volume (~400 cases a year) gives Kevin better oversight and attention over each vintage, but also more time to chill. After all, it’s the Okanagan!

Kevin grew up in Belgium and has lived and travelled all over Europe. He then settled down in Kaleden, BC with his wife Raina and two kids. About a decade before plot’s first 2018 vintage, Kevin and Adam met and became friends while DJ’ing a series of igloo parties up Apex Mountain Resort, before climate change kicked in and they had to get real jobs.

“It’s amazing grapes that makes amazing wines. Once the grapes have been grown in the best way possible, I let them make the wine. That’s my philosophy and minimal approach to winemaking.”

This is a barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc with a splash of Muscat Ottonel and Muscat Orange. The wine has a brilliant clarity and a lovely straw yellow colour.

Aromas of mango, peach, honey and lime zest.

Flavours of white peach, ripe apple, Meyer lemon and Mandarin orange. Perfectly balanced acidic and sugar levels provide a wonderful mouthfeel and delightful finish.

Above the wine is paired perfectly with pan-fried Sole and Tuscan Baked vegetables. 91 Points

Future Plans

Beyond being generally excited to have launched a couple of short months ago, we’re getting close to releasing our first red – a Bordeaux style blend called Neighbour, and a skin-contact experiment with Gewurztraminer (Orange No.1)

Also to come this spring the 2019 vintages of:

  • Tempranillo Rose
  • Pinot Noir Rose
  • Tempranillo – We’re doing less volume of the 2019 Tempranillo Rose. This is so we can do a barrel of classic, oaked Tempranillo. This and the Sauvignon Blanc both come from Kevin’s own Kaleden vineyard that is currently undergoing organic transition.
  • Sauvignon Blanc
