🌸 @drinkriverstone Rosé + Gone Crackers = a very g 🌸 @drinkriverstone Rosé + Gone Crackers = a very good afternoon.

Tasting through a lineup of River Stone Estate Winery rosés — bright fruit, lively acidity, and the kind of freshness that makes BC rosé so easy to enjoy with food.

Highlights from the lineup:

🍓 2024 Good Neighbours Malbec Rosé – rhubarb, strawberry, Bing cherry
🍒 2024 Good Neighbours Sparkling White Merlot – white raspberry, Rainier cherry, strawberry
🍉 2023 Cabernet Franc Rosé – strawberry, watermelon, mineral edge (90 pts Tony Aspler)
✨ 2023 Sparkling Cabernet Franc Rosé – strawberry, raspberry, rose petals, fine bubbles

Crisp. Fresh. Summer-ready.

And yes… the @gonecrackers disappeared quickly.

Ancient Hill Baco Noir 2019 ($26) – 92 Points The Ancient Hill Baco Noir 2019 ($26) – 92 Points

There’s something deeply satisfying about pairing BC Baco Noir with a perfectly cooked medium-rare sirloin tip roast 🥩🔥 — and this bottle absolutely delivered.

In the glass, it pours a bold, inky red that hints at the richness to come. The nose bursts with ripe black cherry, dark plum, warm baking spice, chocolate, vanilla and a subtle touch of butterscotch.

On the palate? Soft yet powerful.
Lush. Velvety. Structured.

The fruit intensity wraps beautifully around medium-rare beef, while the refined spice and gentle tannins cut cleanly through the lean sirloin. As the wine has aged, it’s really come into its own — showing more polish, integration, and harmony than ever.

BC Baco Noir doesn’t always get the spotlight… but bottles like this remind you why it should. 🇨🇦🍷

At $26, this is serious value for a cellar-worthy BC red.

📈 BC sparkling wine is now the fastest-growing wine category in the province. ~15% CAGR in a flat overall market.

While other segments tread water, BC bubbles keep climbing.
This is why. 🍾🇨🇦

🥂 BC Sparkling Is Booming — and Here’s Why 🇨🇦✨ BC 🥂 BC Sparkling Is Booming — and Here’s Why 🇨🇦✨

BC’s sparkling wine category has been growing at roughly 15% annually, one of the strongest-performing segments in the province. 📈

New dedicated sparkling houses like @evolvesparkling are a big reason why.

Focused production. Extended lees aging. Thoughtful dosage.
Real commitment to bubbles, not just a side project.

Here are three that show why BC sparkling momentum is real:

🌸 Rosé Brut 2018 – 92 pts
5 years on lees. Fine, creamy mousse.
🍓 Strawberry, red cherry & brioche
Crisp acidity with a vibrant, dry finish.
Perfect with smoked salmon, beet & goat cheese, or even strawberry shortcake.

🍾 Brut Nature 2018 – 93 pts
🏆 Best Sparkling Wine of the Year (Double Gold – All Canadian Wine Championships)
Bone-dry (1.5 g/L RS).
Brioche, toasted hazelnut, lemon curd & white flowers.
Layered, structured, beautifully balanced.
Ideal with roast duck, mushroom risotto, or creamy brie.

✨ Brut Première 2020 – 92 pts
3+ years on lees.
🍋 Orange blossom, candied lemon peel, red apple & subtle toast.
Refined mousse and built to age 7–10 years.
Elegant enough for celebrations, versatile enough for any night of the week.

These aren’t “good for BC” sparklers. They’re simply good, period.

The sparkling category is expanding because producers like Evolve are investing in quality, patience, and technique — and consumers are responding.

Support BC. Drink local. Celebrate often. 🥂🇨🇦

Cooler vintages often reveal the true elegance of Cooler vintages often reveal the true elegance of Syrah, and this bottle from @orofino_winery is a beautiful reminder why the Similkameen Valley continues to impress.

Grown on a single high-elevation site above the river in Keremeos, this Syrah was fermented with wild yeast, aged 16 months in French oak (just 10% new), then bottled unfiltered and unfined.

The result? A fabulous, elegant expression of place.

🌸 Aromas of violet, black plum and blackberry
🌶 A hint of pepper and earthy undertones
🍷 Medium-bodied with bright acidity and smooth, integrated tannins
🪵 Notes of red and black fruit, pepper, cedar and minerality on a medium-length finish

Refined. Balanced. Quietly powerful.

93 Points

Similkameen Syrah continues to carve out its own identity: cooler, structured, and age-worthy.

Have you opened a BC Syrah lately?

Last night we celebrated Judy’s birthday at Journe Last night we celebrated Judy’s birthday at Journey Restaurant inside the stunning new @azhadivineyards in Lake Country, and what an extraordinary evening it was. ✨

Azhadi feels less like a winery and more like a cultural landmark. Inspired by Tehran’s iconic Freedom Tower, the four-storey structure rises with both Western elegance and Eastern soul, crowned by a 19.5-metre observation tower and traditional wind catcher, a tribute to 2,500 years of Persian heritage.

Nev graciously guided us through the property, sharing the story behind Azhadi’s vision. Highlights included an extraordinary collection of Persian rugs, works by Thomas Kinkade, Canada’s Group of Seven, and the striking Golden Griffin. At one point we even crossed paths with Julian Bontorin, who graciously poured us a taste of the mysterious Griffin, a fittingly bold red wine for such a dramatic setting.

At the heart of Azhadi is Journey Restaurant, where Executive Chef Alain Léger and his team delivered cuisine as refined as the architecture.

For me, the standout was the kebab from the Josper Grill, flame-kissed, aromatic, and deeply satisfying. Judy’s tamarind-glazed lingcod with turmeric and roasted cauliflower carried subtle Persian spice notes, and the evening closed beautifully with crème brûlée.

A night of art, architecture, heritage, and cuisine, where "Persia meets the Okanagan".
